About 31 EATS

What I am currently doing with my small business

31 EATS is a Soweto-born food business that offers high-quality baked goods and traditional South African meals, grounded in both culinary excellence and township culture. Strategically located in Dube Village, 31 EATS began as a bakery to introduce artisan-level products—cakes, muffins, bread, scones, and more—to a vibrant but underserved local market. This phase has already demonstrated strong community support and growing demand. The ultimate vision is to grow into a full-service restaurant and catering business that celebrates the depth of African cuisine, provides employment opportunities, and contributes to local economic transformation. The phased approach allows 31 EATS to build capital, reputation, and community trust while scaling sustainably toward its long-term goals.

If I acquired funding this is how I would expand my small business

If 31 EATS acquires funding, the immediate focus will be on the expansion of Phase 1: strengthening the bakery foundation. This critical first phase is essential to building a stable base for the business and generating the revenue necessary to fund future growth. The expansion of Phase 1 would begin with investing in advanced baking equipment to increase production capacity. This includes purchasing larger stand mixers, commercial-grade ovens, additional trays, cake tins, piping tools, and cooling racks. These tools would enable 31 EATS to produce more baked goods efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality. Staffing will also play a key role in Phase 1. With more hands on deck, the bakery can meet growing demand and ensure consistent output. Training programs will be implemented to equip staff with professional baking techniques and customer service skills, reinforcing the brand’s reputation for excellence. Another vital component of this phase is improving packaging and product presentation. Branded, eco-friendly packaging will elevate the customer experience and strengthen brand recognition. Signature products such as traditional-flavored cupcakes, specialty cakes, and themed pastries will be introduced to differentiate 31 EATS from competitors and appeal to a broader market. Marketing and digital visibility will also be addressed. A portion of the funding will be allocated to setting up a basic but professional online presence, including social media pages, a simple website, and WhatsApp Business integration. These platforms will serve as key tools for reaching local customers, taking orders, and showcasing products. Delivery and distribution services will be expanded to reach customers beyond the immediate neighborhood. By utilizing platforms like Uber Eats and Mr D, or developing a basic in-house delivery system, 31 EATS can maximize convenience and grow its customer base. The successful implementation of Phase 1 will increase daily production, boost sales, and solidify 31 EATS as a reliable, high-quality bakery. This phase lays the groundwork for future phases of development, transforming the bakery into a sustainable source of income and a respected food brand in Soweto.
